This industry first 6-hour exam course is the most comprehensive green furnishings training program available, providing designers the knowledge and credentials to differentiate themselves as experts in sustainability. Written by an accredited LEED-CI/AP and approved by GBCI for 6 CE hours and registered with IDCEC for .5 W CEUs or individual modules at .1 W CEUs.

Tuition subsidized by SDC - regular, full price tuition is $299.

Unit 1 - The Case For Sustainability Understand core environmental issues related to home furnishings, including the factual basis for climate change, indoor air quality, toxic waste, and water conservation.

Unit 2 - Knowing Green Consumers Gain insight into the current consumer thinking, preferred terminology, hot button issues, levels of concern, purchase interest, price sensitivity, and perceived obstacles.

Unit 3 - Sourcing Green Products Learn the differences between available options in the components that go into home furnishings, including certified wood, rapid renewables, commercial harvests, recycled/recyclable content, low VOC finishes, bio hybrid cushioning, vegetable-tanned leathers and organic textiles.

Unit 4 - Selling Green Solutions Answer the questions most commonly asked by customers in simple, compelling ways.

Unit 5 - Designing Green Interiors Learn to make educated recommendations on wall paint, window treatments, flooring and carpeting in a commercial space or in the home.

Unit 6 - Operating Green Showrooms Learn tips and tricks for energy conservation, lighting, cooling and recycling, with exact methods of calculating cost and carbon savings.

Tuition includes lunch.
